Tasmac staff go on flash strike, 3 suspended

Besides Chennai, shops remained closed in many districts, including Tiruvallur, Madurai, Erode, Karur, Vellore, and Krishnagiri. Minister Vignesh said 460 of the State's 4,040 outlets remained closed on Sunday.

The strike happened on the day that the government implemented a revised scheme. Under that, the practice of collecting Rs 10 separately under the bottle buy-back scheme during the purchase was cancelled. Instead, the liquor price was uniformly increased by Rs 10 per bottle, and customers can get back Rs 10 by returning empty bottles, subject to verification.

The workers said they faced increased workload, lack of basic facilities, and inadequate arrangements to handle returned bottles.
